Tips: Start-up visa

This page is mainly for new comers who are planning to start business in Japan.

Generally, when you want to get Certificate of Eligibility (COE) for company owners (business manager visa) , you need to have your partner in Japan who could establish your company with you.  Your partner will be responsible for establishing a company, including preparing personal bank account.  You need to have a very reliable person as your partner because you will remit your capital of at least 5 million yen into her/his personal bank account.

After establishing a company, your partner will apply for your COE.  Then, you will come to Japan with the entry visa issued based on COE, and start your business.

If you don't have a partner in Japan, you cannot establish your company even if you could come to Japan for business preparation with short-term visa because you cannot open your bank account in Japan without a residence card.

In this page, we will explain 3 ways that will allow you to start your business without partners in Japan.

Whichever path you take, please prepare very well in advance before you start business newly in Japan.

A. Budget: at least 5 million yen capital investment with sure proofs of its source, plus savings to shoulder your living expenses for at least for a year

B. Plan: concrete and realistic business plan with feasible profit and loss prediction

C. Experience: enough business experience to carry out your plan, to make profits and to keep your business going for years to come
